What do girls talk about? Memes, hair, faith, depression, identity, being brown… who do you talk to when you can’t articulate what you’re feeling or are afraid of being judged or misunderstood? GURLS TALK is an online platform founded by Adwoa Aboah; a therapeutic and modern way for girls to express themselves freely with other like minded females.
Embellished Talk has teamed up with GURLS TALK and hand embroidered 20 super soft t-shirts made by EVERYBODY, a LA based clothing and lifestyle goods company inspired by reality, people, cultures, history, science and life.
The t-shirts are one of a kind so you’ll never have that fear of walking into a place with your sartorial doppelgänger. All the proceeds will be donated to the Baytree Centre; a charity organisation working with and empowering women and girls through education and skills development programmes. I volunteered there for eight years and now work there part time coordinating the Into School programme; a funded project helping newly arrived refugee and immigrant girls develop their English language skills through ESOL classes, cookery, arts, maths and animation sessions. The girls are various ages and aren’t in education or employment so we help them get into schools and colleges while helping them settle into life in the UK. The centre’s like a second home to me and has allowed me to freely develop creatively and professionally.
Embellished Talk is space where you can learn about different textiles through interesting people and designers. All the women modelling the t-shirts are friends of mine and I’m glad that textiles has made a platform for these Embellished Gurls to Talk.
